Reuben Hills

by Anna on January 20, 2013

Hi everyone!

It’s so good to be back here after a whirlwind trip to Japan. It was a totally phenomenal trip; the kind that’s so good there aren’t enough adjectives to explain how much fun we had. I’m also attempting to recover from the birthday drinks that my housemate Rosie and I had last night (so much fun!). Rather than attempt (and fail) to describe why we enjoyed it so much, I’m going to resume normal programming and tell you about Reuben Hills, one of the (too) many places still waiting to be ticked off on my to do list.

I added Reuben Hills to my list of places to visit because I’m on board with anything involving salted caramel but I didn’t have very high hopes – I was sure it was going to be overcome with Surry Hills hipsters and really not worth the effort. Oh how wrong I was! I’ve been at least half a dozen times in the past few months. I’ve even actively avoided writing about it here because I want an excuse to return again and again!

Milkshakes, Reuben Hills

Sure there are hipsters, but there’s also plenty of space, good service, delicious food and salted caramel milkshakes (which, by the way, totally exceeded expectations – it was practically inhaled). I’ve worked my way through the corn tortillas, Berkshire ham on rye, tomatoes on toast, the Dirty Bird, alfajores and coconut teacakes. All were delicious (especially the tomatoes on toast!). Truly, I haven’t had a bad meal there and the coffee is exceptional too. I’ll wrap it up before I start to sound stupidly fanatical (or am I already there?!), but really, do go if you get the chance.

It’s been a bit light on recipes around here lately but I was given a few amazing cookbooks for Christmas and my birthday (thank you so much Rosie and Em : ) which are already overflowing with post-it notes and speckled with oil. I can’t wait  to share my discoveries with you.

Hope your 2013 is off to a brilliant start. Happy Sunday! Xo

Guess what! My friend’s went there when they went to Sydney AND had the salted carmel AND raved about it. Sounds delicious! I’ve got a group of friends heading to Tokoyo and then doing some snowboarding in Feb. Glad you had such a good time!

Hi Anna! What a delicious menu…salted caramel milkshakes? Really?! My bestie lived in Surry Hills for years and we never found anything as cool as that!

I’ve stumbled upon your blog in quite the roundabout way, so much so I can’t recall exactly how but I can tell you that your lovely friend Rosie is in fact also my lovely friend who I went to uni/lived at college with! Super small world. I’ve just started a blog of my own at sophboat.blogspot.com.au too so do pop over and say hello :)

Hi Sophie! Nice to meet you! Wow. It is a small world! Next time you’re in Sydney we’ll all have to go and have a salted caramel milkshake (they really are incredible!). Very cool that you just started blogging. Your blog looks awesome! (I am terrified of all things flight-related though!). Happy Friday!
